O'MORE COLLEGE OF DESIGN ADVANCED CREDIT PROGRAM OverviewThe Visual Communications Department at O'More College of Design is a four-year graphic design program which includes a variety of traditional print disciplines along with the latest technology-based areas such as web and motion graphics. The program encourages creativity while stressing strong design, technical and presentation skills. Because courses are taught by instructors who continue to practice their skills professionally, the knowledge gained in each course is practical and current to the industry. Because of the small instructor-to-student ratio, students receive a high level of individual attention throughout their time at O'More while earning a bachelors of fine arts degree. Purpose of Agreement In most college environments, a student is forced to enter a course path regardless of prior high school experience. Our goal at O'More College is for each student to realize his or her full potential. By not having to repeat courses designed to teach skills already learned, students can focus on challenging courses which will take their skills to higher levels. An articulation agreement between O'More College of Design and the State of Tennessee exists to give students who acquire various skills at the high school level the opportunity to earn advanced credit toward various courses at O'More which duplicate those acquired skills. This is the only agreement of its kind between the State of Tennessee and an institute of higher education. Requirements Up to 12 hours of advanced credit may be earned though this program. Students wishing to be considered for this program must meet the following requirements: • At least three high school credits in the Visual Communications Pathway • Application for enrollment to and acceptance by O'More College of Design • A letter of recommendation from a high school Visual Communications instructor • Presentation of a portfolio of applicable work • An interview with the Chair of the Visual Communications department • In some instances, a project assignment and/or written exam for the course(s) will be required Portfolio Details Requirements differ depending on the course a student wishes to gain credit for. Visit this page for details on the courses most high school students qualify for. Also listed are skills which need to be mastered in order for a high school student to receive credit for a software course. Approval Process The Advanced Credit Review Committee will review all submitted portfolios and evaluate eligibility. If approved, the student will then complete a project assignment and/or written exam, as needed, within an established timeframe. Once the student passes the project/exam, the credit hours for the course are granted. Dates for Submission Students who wish to apply for credit may do so once requirements are met. If a student is currently in the third year of a Visual Communications pathway, a current GPA for the course must be provided by the instructor. Students requesting credit for the Fall 2007 semester must apply between April 2 and June 15, 2007. Priority for interviews will be given based on order portfolios are received. Any exams/projects which need to be completed will take place after interviews are completed. Students will be notified of courses approved for credit no later than July 15, 2007. Only 20 students will be allowed to participate in the program this Fall. Contact Information For questions about O'More College of Design or to apply online, visit omorecollege.edu.
